KALIA Buying Guide

How to choose motorized shades

Choose the way you want your shades to move, then match the motor, power and home setup. A few checks before measuring make the rest of your online configuration simpler.

Updated · Product options set the final requirements.

Start with the way you use the room.

A remote can make several windows easier to adjust from one place. A compatible smart-home setup can add app, voice or scheduling functions, depending on the motor and platform you choose. Decide which of those actions you actually want before comparing motor options.

Manual cordless and motorized are separate choices in KALIA’s configurators. A manually operated cordless shade is raised or lowered by hand; a motorized shade uses a powered motor. Choosing a motor changes the operation, while the selected fabric and mounting position still determine the light and coverage.

Compare the control before choosing the motor
Choice shown on the productA useful starting pointWhat to match
Remote ControlYou want to move the shade with a handheld or wall remote. The motor’s compatible remote family and the number of channels you need.
Smart Control — ZigbeeYou want to use a compatible Zigbee smart-home setup.A hub or coordinator that supports that exact motor and the functions you want.
Smart Control — Matter over ThreadYou want the shade in a supported Matter home platform.A compatible Matter controller and Thread Border Router; these functions may be combined in one device.
Matter over Thread (Eve)You are considering the offered Eve motor option. The exact Eve motor version, platform requirements, remote and charging choices.
Smart Control — HomeKitYour chosen product specifically offers a HomeKit-labelled motor. That motor’s Apple Home requirements. A HomeKit label alone does not establish Matter support.

Match the home system you already have.

Write down the model of your hub or smart speaker, your home platform and the features you want. “Alexa”, “Apple Home” or another app name is only the start of a compatibility check. Confirm the selected motor, controller and network together.

Matter and Zigbee are different connectivity choices. For an offered Matter-over-Thread motor, plan both the Matter-controller function and the Thread network connection. For an offered Zigbee motor, check the compatible Zigbee hub or coordinator instead. Having home Wi-Fi alone does not identify either setup.

Eve is a motor family, so check the actual selection rather than assuming every Eve-labelled product has the same version. KALIA’s dedicated Eve roller configuration explicitly lists Matter over Thread (Eve); some other models use a separate HomeKit-labelled option. Do not infer an upgrade path between them.

Check Apple’s current home-hub guidance and Eve’s published Matter requirements alongside the selected motor’s instructions. Platform requirements and supported functions can change.

Plan power where the shade will sit.

Available KALIA configurations include battery-powered and wired motor choices. Battery operation still needs convenient charging access; a wired option needs a suitable power source. Check the motor side and the route to the charging connection or outlet before finalizing the window plan.

Selected products offer solar-charging accessories and charging-cable choices. Review those options on your exact model rather than assuming a solar panel, extra cable or remote comes with every motor. Charging frequency depends on the motor, shade size and use, so use the specified product guidance when planning access.

Measure for the model you are ordering.

Choose the motor and mounting approach before entering final dimensions. Confirm the product’s size range, usable recess depth and clearance around handles or trim. No-drill motorized linen roller shades in the current KALIA range use inside mounting; other models offer different mount choices.

Record each window separately and follow the model’s opening-versus-coverage instructions. An old blind’s finished size may include different adjustments. Keep your original readings, use the offered inches or centimetres setting, and review the displayed units before ordering.

A short checklist before you add to your bag.

  1. Fabric: choose the light control and color you want; compare a swatch in your room.
  2. Fit: check the mount, window dimensions, depth and operating clearance.
  3. Control: select the exact motor system and confirm any hub or platform requirement.
  4. Power and accessories: review charging or wiring, motor side, remote family and optional extras.
  5. Price and quantity: review the configured total and each window’s details. Keep different sizes as separate configurations.
