Inside mount fits within the window recess. Outside mount covers an area beyond the opening. Available mount options depend on the product; some no-drill models offer inside mount only.
Inside mount
Record the window opening.
Measure the inside width at the top, middle and bottom.
Measure the inside height at the left, center and right.
Record the usable depth and note handles, locks, trim or other obstructions.
Use your selected model’s instructions to choose the order width and height from these readings.
Do not deduct from the opening yourself. The product-specific manufacturing adjustment is handled for the selected model. Check its required depth before ordering.
Outside mount
Record the area you want covered.
Mark where the shade will begin and end beyond the opening.
Measure the total desired width of coverage.
Measure from the planned top of the shade to the desired bottom edge.
Check mounting space, trim, handles and the overlap recommended for the exact model.
Enter the finished overall coverage size. Do not enter the opening size and expect extra overlap to be added automatically. Confirm the model supports outside mount.
Worked example / Linen Fabric Roller Shades only
Keep the readings. Then choose the order size.
For the Linen Fabric Roller Shades inside-mount guide: widths of 36″, 35⅞″ and 36″ give an order width of 35⅞″ (35.875). Heights of 59¾″, 60″ and 59⅞″ give an order height of 60″. Enter the opening size without a deduction.
This example uses that model’s smallest-width / largest-height method. Other products can have different instructions. Keep all six readings and ask our team if your model’s guidance is unclear.
Use this as a planning guide. Available sizes and fractional increments are validated on the product page. Ask our team to confirm model-specific mounting depth and clearances before ordering.

Roller & solar
Opening vs. coverage size, roll direction and bracket clearance. Fabric can be narrower than the complete shade; edge gaps affect privacy.
Keep exact fractions. Shade heights use ⅛″ increments. Most widths use ⅛″; selected models accept 1/16″. The product page validates its own increments and range. Do not round a measurement just to make it fit; confirm any adjustment before ordering.
04 / Drapery
Measure each finished panel.
Start with your rod or track position and your chosen heading. Kalia drapery is sold individually: one quantity is one panel; choose two panels for a pair.
Width: one panel at a time.
Measure the rod or track span you want the panels to cover. Confirm any overlap or return allowance with our team for your heading and hardware.
Choose one panel or a pair, then decide the finished coverage for each panel.
For pleated headings, enter the finished pleated width of one panel. Pleat fullness is already built into that heading.
Do not enter the pair’s total width as the width of each panel. For an evenly split 80″ total planned coverage, two panels would each be 40″ finished width. Confirm overlap and returns for your hardware first.
Length & finish
Measure from the hanging point.
Choose and position the rod or track before measuring the final length.
Measure from the actual fabric hanging point to the floor or the desired finished edge. Allow for your selected hooks, rings or track.
Measure at several points, especially if the floor or ceiling is uneven.
Choose where the fabric will finish: above the floor, just touching it or with extra length. Confirm the final length before ordering.
Use whole inches for drapery. Enter the finished width and length for one panel, then select the panel quantity separately. If your reading falls between whole inches, ask us to confirm the intended finish.
Rods, tracks and rings are not included with the fabric panel. Lining changes the way the light feels; it does not replace a careful size check.
Enter the window opening size without your own manufacturing deduction. The selected shade’s product-specific adjustment is handled for that model. Keep the original readings and follow its measuring notes. If instructions conflict or the opening is uneven, ask us before ordering.
How deep does my window frame need to be?
Depth depends on the exact product, mount and operating system. There is no single minimum for all Kalia shades. Check the chosen product’s mounting information and leave clearance for handles and locks. Send the model name and your depth measurement to our team if you need help.
Can I measure an old blind instead?
Measure the window opening or your desired coverage area. An existing blind can have manufacturing deductions or a different mounting system, so its finished size may not be the right order size for your new product.
What if my window is uneven or outside the available sizes?
Record all six opening measurements, the depth and any obstructions. Contact our team with the product name before placing the order. Do not force a size through the customizer by rounding it or choosing a different mount.
Will blackout fabric make my room completely dark?
Blackout describes the fabric. Light can still enter around the edges, especially with an inside mount. Coverage, mounting and installation affect the result. Discuss your room’s light-control needs before choosing the product.
